We’d like to introduce Alison Moon, the Head of Geospatial Projects here at thinkWhere.
We sat down with Alison to learn a bit more about her career and what she enjoys inside and outside of work.

Tell us a little bit about your career so far
After completing my Masters in GIS I spent 2 and a half years with Informed Solutions; a geospatial consultancy and systems integrator focused on large central government clients. I then took up a new role with what was then Forth Valley GIS; a shared Local Government service providing GIS solutions and services to 3 Local Authorities. In 2007, Forth Valley GIS became thinkWhere, and my role developed from technical project management of small scale implementation projects to encompass both technical and commercial roles. In 2019, I took on the role of Operations Manager, leading a multi-disciplinary Agile team delivering a portfolio of client projects and internal product roadmaps. With the acquisition of thinkWhere by Idox in 2021, I have continued to lead on the delivery of complex, data-driven technology projects for a range of clients in both the public and private sector.
What do you like most about your current role?
My passion for my role stems from the opportunities it affords to work closely with clients, technical colleagues and senior management colleagues on a wide range of projects. I enjoy working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment, solving problems and coming up with solutions to challenges.
In my role I’m able to work on projects end-to-end from project inception and discovery, through to design, implementation and deployment. I love getting to know our clients and their business; their motivations and challenges, so that we can work together in a truly collaborative way. This gives me the opportunity to really understand the needs of our clients and shape the outcomes of the projects I deliver.
What do you bring to the team?
I bring a focus on technical and commercial delivery, whether that be on client or internal projects, or product delivery.
My approach, when dealing with clients or colleagues, is founded on collaboration, forging successful working relationships based on trust, proactive and effective communication, and a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
How does the team work together and what do you achieve for your clients?
I’m fortunate to work with a diverse group of people who are experts in software engineering, geospatial and cloud technologies, and geospatial data management. The culture of our team is very positive and collaborative, allowing us to harness our shared experience and skills to deliver great products and innovative solutions for clients.
What does the future here look like for you?
I’m very excited to be taking a new role as Head of Geospatial projects and to working with a growing range of clients on strategic discovery and implementation projects. Having completed the Idox “Leading Together” programme last year, I look forward to developing my leadership skills further and to growing my relationships with colleagues and clients. I hope to undertake a formal programme management accreditation and to apply the skills and insights gained to the delivery of my portfolio of projects.
What interests you outside of work?
Outside of work I’m a keen swimmer and enjoy singing and performing with my local choir. I love to keep fit and be outdoors, particularly with my husband, 3 kids and dog Rosie.
